ALTERRA SA

ALTERRA SA is a frozen products company based in Giannitsa.

The company was founded in 2002 and is a vertically integrated unit which produces and distributes frozen fruits and vegetables. In 2005, the company created a fruit and vegetable processing and deep freezing unit in Giannitsa, Pella. The unit is situated in privately owned 60,000 sq.m facilities and was designed and operates using state-of-the-art technological equipment.

The company is mainly involved in foreign markets (especially, Europe and the USA), but it is also active in the Greek market.

ALTERRA SA products are aimed at factories which produce yogurt, ice cream, juices, jam, confectionery, baby food, pastries, dough industries and also at food distribution networks and supermarkets (S/M). The company produces both retail packaging for supermarkets and food distribution networks as a branded product (PELLAS) or as a private label product (P/L).

The company has achieved a competitive position in both the Greek and international markets thanks to the quality of its products and services and its highly specialized and experienced staff.

During its first year of operation, the company became ISO 9001:2008, ISO 22000:2005, IFS International Food Standard/ Higher Level, BRC, GLOBALGAP certified.

The company implements integrated management systems for raw materials, as well as contractual agriculture. In this way it works together with groups of producers to harness the wealth of production in the Greek primary sector.

The company’s fruit and vegetables are, for the most part, produced in Pella, but some are produced in other parts of Greece. ALTERRA SA has a fully staffed and equipped quality assurance department which, working under the strictest controls defined by law, controls and certifies the quality of the products.

ALTERRA SA has 58 permanent staff and 380 temporary employees and its production capacity amounts to 20,000 tons per year. It has a privately owned 33,000 sq.m frozen storage area with a drive-in/back to back storage system and implements automated warehouse management systems (WMS).
