Psychiatry is the branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Psychiatrists are called upon to integrate multiple frameworks to understand their patients: biological (genetic and molecular predisposition), psychological (psychodynamic, cognitive, learning, existential perspectives, etc.), and social (as well as cultural or realistic life contexts), with the goal of treatment.

Research in psychopharmacology, psychobiology, neurophysiology, neurobiochemistry, neuroendocrinology, molecular biology, and molecular genetics—that is, the neurosciences—brings the biological aspect of psychiatry to the forefront.

Within the framework of this holistic—that is, biopsychosocial—approach to understanding human beings, the following psychiatric disorders in adults are addressed: schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorders (depressive disorders, bipolar disorders).

We also treat anxiety disorders, such as panic disorder and agoraphobia, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Anxiety disorders also include acute stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, eating disorders, and sleep disorders.

In addition, we treat personality disorders and psychiatric disorders in older adults (whether primary or secondary to physical illnesses, dementia, pseudodementia, etc.).
