The orthodontists Alexiadis Giannis - Alexiadi Dimitra operate a dental practice in Nea Ionia.

Alexiadis Giannis graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and was specialized in orthodontics in clinics in Vienna, Austria and Cologne, Germany. He is a holder of a German degree of specialist orthodontist, since 1990. He worked for 8 years in a polyorthodontics clinic in Cologne as partner and in 1996 he founded his private orthodontics practice, which still operates today with absolute success.

For children, orthodontics is performed with the use of mechanisms, fixed or removable, that complete braces or function independently.

The removable braces enter and exit the mouth of the patient at will. They are mostly used in very young ages. These are the following mechanisms: Delaire mask in the cases of hypoplasia or of a more rear position than the normal one, extraoral traction which reduces the protrusion of the upper teeth and creates spaces in the upper dental arch, mechanism for the protrusion of the teeth of the mandible for an apoplastic mandible, when the position of the mandible is more in the rear than the normal one, maxillary expansion mechanism for the cases of narrow upper dental arch, anchorage mechanisms for the retaining of the result at the end of the orthodontic treatment.

The fixed mechanisms include: the LipBumper, which is used for the creation of space in the lower dental arch, the lingual arch which preserves or regains space in the lower dental arch during mixed dentition, the mechanism for the preservation of space, which preserves space during mixed dentition and the mechanism for the rapid expansion of the maxilla during mixed or permanent dentition.

As for the metal braces, they are the classic metal braces that are selected for children due to the numerous advantages of their material (stainless steel). Today, they are smaller and more discreet than in the past, and the color in their anchoring points can change, so the treatment is more welcomed by children.

White braces belong to traditional orthodontics. White braces have the same color with the teeth and are made of a ceramic material, plastic or a combination of the two. In general, they are the most common and proven technique. From the other techniques it is the most aesthetically acceptable and offers excellent results.

Lingual orthodontics is the technique in which the fixed mechanisms -“braces” are applied at the interior - lingual surface of the teeth. In this way, the braces are totally invisible.

The disadvantage of this technique is that it causes a difficulty in speaking & in mouth cleaning during the treatment. It usually requires a longer treatment period, and also has a higher cost than conventional orthodontics.

Transparent splints consist a new technique. They belong to invisible orthodontics or braceless orthodontics. These splints are placed successively in the mouth and progressively move the teeth to the desired position. From an aesthetic point of view they consist the most acceptable solution, principally for adults who are discouraged by “traditional braces”.

Regardless of the aesthetic part, the health of our teeth and gums is very important to ignore it. The bad arrangement of the teeth, crowded teeth, sparce teeth, diastemas, bad dental occlusion, that have as result bad hygiene & cause other problems in our everyday lives, need orthodontic therapy
